Top 10 Kollywood Female Debuts 2011

01. Hansika Motwani :
Having made her debut in Maapillai with Dhanush, Hansika followed it up with Engeyum Kadhal and Velayudham with Jayam Ravi and Vijay respectively. The Tamil audience has taken to her in a big way and she has a slew of interesting projects in her kitty like OKOK and Vettai Mannan.

02. Richa Gangopadhyay :
Richa was the envy of many when she landed two projects with two of the hottest heroes in the Tamil film industry - STR and Dhanush. In Mayakkam Enna, Richa had a powerful character to play and the critics tended to be generous in their appraisal of her performance and the audiences seemed to love her. In Osthe with STR, Richa proved she could blend into a purely masala entertainer seamlessly. Richa is busy currently with Telugu films.

03. Shruti Haasan :
Shruti Haasan was following in the footsteps of her father Kamal Haasan whom many consider to be a living legend and the young actress had to bear the heavy burden of expectations. She made her debut in Tamil with AR Murugadoss’s 7aum Arivu opposite Suriya. Her character was almost on equal footing with Suriya’s and she turned in an earnest performance. The film was successful and Shruti has arrived. Her next film is 3 with Dhanush which promises to be very interesting.

04. Baby Sara :
The sweet little girl from Deiva Thirumagal is a pint – sized dynamo. Her performance was both adorable and powerful and there was not a dry eye in the audience during the screening thanks to her. It is not very often that one comes across a mere slip of a girl who has what it takes to steal a National award winner’s thunder but Sara pulled it off. She is heroine material for sure and it will be very interesting to follow her career.

05. Tapasee :
Taapsee’s first film in Tamil was Aadukalam and the film made a big splash when the National awards were announced. Therefore, she is regarded as a lucky mascot. Later on in the year she was seen in Vandhaan Vendraan with Jiiva. Taapsee will also be seen in a Hindi film soon.

06. Karthika Nair :
Radha’s daughter had a dream launch in Tamil cinema with Ko, which turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the year. Her next film Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum is with veteran director Bharathiraja, the man who launched her mother and so the expectations are high for her.

07. Iniya :
The Vaagai Sooda Vaa heroine impressed all with her freshness and charm. In fact, veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja was so impressed with her performance that he immediately finalized her for a role in his next film, Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum.

08. Yasmin Ponnappa :
Aaranya Kaandam made by debutant Thiagarajan Kumararaja was without doubt one of the breakout films of the year. Yasmin Ponnappa had one of the boldest roles seen in Tamil cinema. It was not a performance that people will forget in a hurry.

09. Mithra Kurien :
The surprise package in Vijay starrer, Kaavalan was Mithra Kurien. She was unobtrusive throughout the film and in a climactic moment, the spotlight shone solely on her. On the strength of this moment, she landed a part in Rajapattai with Vikram.

10. Jasmin Bhasin :
Jasmin played STR’s love interest in Vaanam. She may not have made much of an impact in this multi-starrer but who knows what the future holds her for?
